Eugene Murphy

Development Director & Head Coach

I believe that everyone’s athletic potential on the ice is limited only by their skating ability, athleticism and passion for the game. As a power skating coach my goal is simple, develop dynamic skaters with exceptional skills so they can achieve their goals. All skaters have limits. I push my students past those limits during every lesson while maintaining a repetitive focus on core skills. Players at the highest levels perform the same necessary skating movements as a young player but they execute those maneuvers with precision, instantaneous response, maximum power, accuracy and overall focused kinetic efficiency. The most significant difference between a good and great hockey player is their skating ability. Players at the top of the sport continuously utilize power skating to improve their game and remain at the top. You, the student, will develop a greater appreciation for the sport you love and a sense of pride in your skating after putting in the hours with E3 Power Skating. I look forward to working with you or your child and watching them enjoy the results of their work through success on the ice.

I began playing hockey at the age of 4 in the Washington, D.C area. My playing background includes AAA youth hockey with the Washington Little Capitals, Junior A in the WSHL, and ACHA D2. I was a student of many exceptional power skating and head coaches for over 20 years, many of whom I progressed to coaching with as a student and assistant coach. I began coaching as a student coach at 16 teaching learn to skate and mini mite programs. What started out as a way to get more ice time developed into a passion for teaching the game I love to play.  I continued to coach in a variety of roles throughout my playing career. After completing college I relocated to the Bay Area for business  and began coaching with the Bears in 2013 and started E3 Hockey & Power Skating in 2016. I currently serve as assistant coach for the Santa Clara Blackhawks 14 AA and 14 A teams and Skating/Skills/camp lead coach with Planet Hockey Super Skills Camps and European Summit Tours. I previously head coached many teams with the Oakland Bears 2013 - 2020 and served as assistant coach and assistant GM for the Tahoe Icemen Junior A team of the WSHL 2018 - 2019.
